Put teeth in the visitors legislation, the flyer said. The amendment to the visitors legislation sailed through committee and unanimously passed the full board on April 22, and is fully expected to become law on May 22nd, barring a Mayoral veto. These amendments do several things. It puts a monetary amount for hotels that violate this law of $50.00 to $500.00. It also allows tenants to appeal to the rent board if their rights under this law are violated for a reduction in rent.

“How the hell do I do that?” you ask. Luckily, you don’t have to be a lawyer, and there are several advocacy groups who can help.

You have the right to have 8 overnight guests per month. If your rights are being violated, don’t put up with it, stand up for your rights!
