CORRUPTION FUELS HOMELESSNESS IN SF
There’s a lot of flak lately about the “homeless problem.” Now, the fact that many people are “homeless” is indeed a “problem.” It’s downright unfortunate! Tragic, in most cases. But most of the people who talk, or write in the newspapers, about the “homeless problem” aren’t using the above definition. What they mean is that the homeless ARE the problem! And they want the problem to go away! As Supervisor Tony “the Wedding Singer” Hall said, “give ‘em a one way ticket outta town!”
That’s really showin’ the love, Tony-babe. Your church should bless you for that. The “homeless problem” discussion has become scapegoating. Like the Third Reich’s “Jewish problem.” Or Zimbabwe’s “white farmer problem.” Or, as one LA band sarcastically named themselves, “The Negro Problem.”
Seriously, a handful of San Francisco politicians are intent on riding to power on the backs of the homeless while hiding their own culpability for SF’s problems. Why else would THE WEALTHIEST member of the Board of Supervisors base his political career on a ballot measure to strip welfare benefits from THE POOREST of SF’s population?
So, you think he really wants to help us? Hey, would you like to buy some shares of Pets.com? It’s gonna rocket to the top of the NASDAQ!
People like Newsom, Amos Brown, Willie Brown, Don “GAP” Fisher, Diane Feinstein, the Committee on Jobs, the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, the Hotel Council, the oligarchy ad nauseam, are both whipping up and capitalizing on this 21st Century spirit that’s replaced the gogo dot.com upscale 90’s hallucination: The new hip now thing is the “Ugly San Franciscan.” Screw that Saint Francis crap! You’re pissed off at homeless people, “progressives,” bicyclists, charity, brotherhood, transgender multiculturalism; it’s a long list. And even though you’re still LIBERAL and think George Bush stole the election from your party, by God you Uglies don’t wanna hear about basic tenets of humanity!
Such as the saint’s words:
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is discord, harmony;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light, and
Where there is sorrow, joy.
The myth (to the Ugly San Franciscan) is that San Francisco used to be a brawling, raw-boned, working-class haven for upright citizens seeking truth, justice, and the American way. The Melting Pot of the West Coast where industry thrived and families lived and died for generations, secure in each other, their community, and their church — while at the same time bohemians, artists, and gays could do their thing.
But it’s not that way anymore. It’s “me, me, me, get outta my way or I’ll run your ass over! The poor are poor by choice. It’s their fault, nothing I can do about it except vote to run their impoverished asses outta town! Screw the one-way ticket, even!”

This philosophy is a result of the SFUgly’s firm conviction of superiority: politically, intellectually, financially, and geographically. They’re here because their politics are correct, they’re smarter than the average, affluent enough to live comfortably, and in the Best City in the World. Well, there is that New York envy thing, but we won’t go into that… “But certainly we’re fully as sophisticated! Why, SF is ‘worldclass’ and exudes nothing but good taste and hospitality!”
WRONG.
Sorry to have to break it to you via the industrious homeless person who sold you this paper. First of all, NIMBY was invented in Frisco. City records reflect a disgraceful history of opposition to group homes and shelters, opposition which resulted in facilities which were delayed, downsized, or shelved altogether, with the cumulative result being a massive deficit of available beds for seniors, mentally ill, gay teens, women with children, veterans, etc. Same situation with affordable housing, which for the NIMBY means too many people, of too many ethnicities, with too many pesky kids, and without the NIMBY’s high culture and appreciation for French food. Merde!
Secondly, the fact is that the SFUglys who comprise the “upper crust” of society (based entirely on income level) are without a doubt THE most gullible and UN-sophisticated rubes this side of Baghdad. No, I take that back; I would imagine that most Baghdadians know that Saddam is a crook and is hosing them silly; they just can’t talk about it. Not even in The Music Man would you find a populace as clueless as San Francisco’s. (At least in River City they had barbershop quartets with porches to sing on; here you got a “loft” looming over a sidewalk with an SUV on it!) Don’t believe me? Remember Willie’s dot.coms? At least it wasn’t a monorail.
San Franciscans, over and over again, have swallowed hook, line, and sinker the con jobs of the most prolifically blatant grifter in American (not just SF!) mayoral history: Willie L. Brown, Jr. They have been plucked like chickens, skinned like bunnies, and hung up by the ankles to await the further pleasures of their feudal overlord. I’ll leave it up to your imagination… San Franciscans have sat on their hands, clasping and spreading no doubt, while their City has been transformed into a giant enterprise of “lying, cheating, and stealing,” as Willie so aptly put it, and also skimming, defrauding, and racketeering. NOT THAT THEY DIDN’T KNOW. The reputable (non-Fang) newspapers, lame as they are, have nevertheless produced a barely adequate flow of ex-po-zays on the myriad ways in which WillieCo (headed by the Mayor and staffed by hundreds of other crooks) has fleeced its way from Day 1 to the present.
For instance, San Franciscans have been given enough information to figure out that WillieCo includes an Irish Mafia (Gavin Newsom’s buddies) which builds “artist livework lofts” in the thousands, even though very few artists, artisans, craft persons or bohemians of any kind want, need, or can afford them. And they should realize that this very basic fraud enables the mob to make a pathetically weak and (so far) legally untested case that they shouldn’t have to pay fees for school improvements or affordable housing. And that the completely bogus City Hall mechanism was greased to allow this without the slightest friction.
Apparently mathematics was not a big subject for the upper crusties at university or charm school, or they’d realize that shoehorning thousands of expensive and absurdly redundant “lofts” (the SUVs of condos) into a very constrained and already expensive area warps the housing market something fierce! Take that number and subtract the negative hundreds of affordable and low-income units of housing that were illegally un-paid for (thanks to those big kickbacks to Phil Angelides, Willie Brown and his machine cronies, etc.) and the sophisticated mind should conclude that maybe it’s more than drugs that makes it hard for the poor in SF!! Now let’s add to the equation other news items: that some local forces (including those listed above) want to actually move poor people and renters OUT of San Francisco because they don‚t like the way they vote! Which is both illegal and, I daresay, Un-American. (See the 10/9 Bay Guardian for details @ sfbg.com) And that federal officials WON’T crack down on misuse of taxpayer dollars, housing law and other violations in SF, because the #2 dude at HUD, who’s tight with George W., is also buddies with Willie! They’s all from Texas!
Dang, it’s a small world after all! And a small political system too! Democrats in bed with Republicans and duh Mayor in bed with fundraisers with all kinds of bastard results (See the 10/13 SF Chronicle @ sfchronicle.com). With neither DC nor Sacto willing to bust WillieCo, and the FBI too inept and timid to put Willie and his pals in jail where they belong, the crooks have a free hand to milk oblivious citizens of all they can get away with, worsen the economy and the housing situation, exploit the warehoused denizens of the public housing ghettos, and laugh all the way to the bank! The folks in Baghdad can relate to that!
So don’t tell me that homeless people are the problem in SF. The problem is corruption, and this article contains just the briefest outline. Ignorant, bigoted, amoral, narrow-sighted Ugly San Franciscans who are perfectly happy with their bamboozled servitude foster corruption and are corrupted thereby. The corrupt and the corrupted are responsible for the mess on the streets and the fact that folks don’t have enough housing.
