Dear Supervisors:

I am a mother of two daughters, five and three years old. We used to live in a studio, where my husband plus the three of us lived together. We didn’t have enough space and we were always on top of each other. My children didn’t have any space to play.

I found out about the rental subsidy program, I applied, and I was accepted. Now I live in a bigger apartment and my children’s lives have changed noticeably. They are a lot happier and my older daughter tells me that she likes her new home. I’m very happy and so is my husband. Before I felt very stressed because the space was so small and I wanted my children to have a more comfortable life. But we couldn’t do it, even though my husband worked very hard. But now I’m much happier. Thanks to the subsidy we live more comfortably and we are not as stressed. To see my children play and be happy is very gratifying and it makes me feel good.

But I am also very worried about the fact that at the end of the one-year program the subsidy will be taken away from us. Even thinking about it makes me worry and I start thinking—what are we going to do? We’re not going to be okay anymore. And how are we going to feel when my husband is going to have to work more and the stress will come back and the worst thing is that my husband won’t be able to spend any time with me and my daughters and that’s very frustrating.
