Dear Supervisors:

My name is Kenya Valdez. I am an active member of the Coalition on Homelessness. I applied for the subsidy and they haven’t given it to me. I feel bad because I have problems in the house where I am staying temporarily and at times I have stayed in the street with my children.

When I look for a room to rent, the first thing they tell me is no children and no pets. And I feel bad because they discriminate against me and my child and father because I don’t have papers. The only thing my son wants is to have an apartment and to all live together. In the rooms where we have stayed there are a lot of problems. If it’s not one thing then it’s another.
We don’t want the rental subsidy to be taken away from people because it’s going to force families out onto the streets.

Think about when you were children; your parents must have suffered for you as well. Please, look to your conscience. We would really appreciate it. I’m asking you to pass this legislation for the benefit of the families.

May God always bless you.
